We attended the Kelsey Group's Interactive Local Media conference in Virginia late last year and made a point of checking out all the services of the companies represented there to see who was doing interesting things in helping folks shop locally. Openlist.com was one of the services we discovered and really liked. Their approach, like ours, is to aggregate content from a variety of great sources and serve it up to readers in a way that gives them a strong sense of whether or not a business is worth their time and money.
But where ConsensusBest is dealing with products and local retailers, Openlist is all about services, specifically restaurants, hotels and attractions. As much as we like them, their popularity has been moderate but pretty stagnant. That said, they've just been bought by Marchex, a big player in the local online business. Hopefully Marchex will be able to do great things with Openlist and introduce the site to a lot of new people. Check it out for yourself. We're interested to know what you do or don't like about it.
